PlaceMatters is working on a team led by Goody Clancy to help Wichita, Kansas to create a Revitalization Master Plan for downtown. PlaceMatters will be focusing on using online tools, mobile technologies, and the AnyWare suite of tools for public meetings to help Wichita citizens create a common vision for the revitalization of their downtown.
The team is focusing on economic analysis and connecting downtown sites as part of the planning process. The project's goals include creating a plan for a "24/7" downtown and creating a strong business plan.
PlaceMatters conducted "Walk-shops" in Wichita to help launch the plan process. Walk-shop participants got an introduction to walkability concepts and then took a walk around downtown, taking photographs of elements that affect the pedestrian environment. They then returned and, using AnyWare tools, discussed and voted on key concepts that emerged.
You can see a video of Ken Snyder introducing the Walk-shop exercises here. You can also view the photos taken during the Walk-shops on the Walk-shop flickr page.
